2 ply Tunis/BFL 233 yards, creamy light
The Tunis sheep were originally a fat tailed sheep from the Middle East with plenty of medium downy wool. Blue Faced Leicester sheep are one of British breeds that had been improved. The BFL sheep did not do well in our frozen north, but have excellent fine crimpy fleece. I kept a ram and bred him to the Tunis ewes. The cross was amazing in every way, however; the fleece was incredible. It has the volume of the Tunis with the bounce and spring and the crimp of the BFL all on one sheep, plus there was a ton of it! My ram always sheared over 12 pounds! I no longer have these sheep but would definitely consider finding just one again for the fleece. The yarn is medium soft, bouncy, and all purpose. There is a bit of vm in the yarn, so not next to the skin sweaters, but mittens, hats, cardigans, blankets, and weaving are all great options. $20 for 100 gm or more, or 4 oz or so. 233 yards! It is a light cream colour, not bright white.
