Fencing in Progress

The fencing has begun! Finally, after waiting two years, the post pounder was rented from the county  The county has farm rentals to help with major chores, and being the long weekend, an extra day that is not charged is the bonus. So, we have the pounder for three days, and pay for two. Technically, it was here by 5 on Friday, so it could have even been used Friday night, and does not have to be returned until 11 am on Tuesday. Travis adopted the job of operating the post pounder and as he learned its idiosyncrasies, his confidence soared. After doing the driveway posts, except for 5 which will have to be hand placed (my job..already got three holes dug), he wanted to tackle the north field on his own. We measured out where the posts would go, more or less, and marked it with paint. Then I got the skid steer and cleared the fallen trees and leveled an area that was uneven. I had to remove one small tree, but generally the fence was placed where the trees could stay right where they were.

There is a little more fencing in the yard to do around my farmhouse to keep the chickens and geese off my doorstep. I will start adding the boards tomorrow, while Travis continues to pound the posts in the field. The next move is to use whatever posts we have in the south field and slowly work on putting up the wire. It is not a job I enjoy one bit, but I am sure there will be great satisfaction when it is complete and life will be so much easier not having to move the electric net fence every two days. Thank goodness Travis pitched in and seemed to enjoy working with the machine, for that is definitely not my cup of tea. Thanks Trav! Yay, new fencing!
