Hemp is the miracle that could save the world from itself. It was banned when the oil companies realized that any farmer could grow it and produce his own means of survival, including fuel for his vehicles, food, lubricants, ropes, fabrics..well the list is endless. Hemp food is one of the most complete on earth. Hemp oil is amazing for the skin, but has industrial uses as well. No wonder the oil companies wanted it out of the way. So in cahoots with the drug trade, they tied it to marijuana, though no farmer who grew it had any intention of smoking hemp, unless it was by accident in a fire.
But the Fat Ewe Farm is a prairie farm and hemp is grown only miles away and processed in Manitoba. The oils and foods are readily available locally and are so good for us. So, the Fat Ewe is creating soaps, lotions and potions from hemp, soon to be available for you. This evening's project was to make hemp soap, that is clean green translucent hemp soap from unrefined hemp oil, lye and water with a few drops of patchouli essential oil, however; the essential oil will not cover or disguise the green woody sent of hemp itself. The soap is soft, like petroleum jelly, only it is a deep emerald green. It is concentrated and water can be added to create shampoo, dish washing liquid, shaving soap and baby or body soap. It is mild and very emollient and smells like the green earth. Indue, the gift, is soon to be available at the farmer's market and online from The Fat Ewe online store.
One more thing. The packaging is important. Since viewing the trailer for the movie about sea birds dying from eating plastic,( The Midway Film), The Fat Ewe has made a silent vow to reduce and remove plastic from the farm. Indue soap will be available in canning jars and once the packaging that we currently have is used, then no more will be bought to package our goods. We hope ewe will follow our lead in this plastic reduction and that ewe will enjoy our hemp products. Indue, the gift of hemp.
