The first night home, he was still very drugged and slept, but the second night he escaped. He was returned home, but I don't have the details of what happened. He was locked in the garage and busted the window to make his way home. He was apprehended and collared and chained, but slipped his collar and was on the move again. There were kind souls watching out for him, but they will likely try to return Joe to the family that took him home. I did not say anything, but it was my worst fear that he would not stay and try to make his way home. It is not as far as Lassie, who reportedly went clean across America, but it is pretty darn far. There are lots of highways and traffic and I don't know if he knows how to find food for himself. He was always interested in what I had for him and showed no effort to hunt his prey and eat wild.
I was worried about Joe. I need to know he is safe and not lying on the side of a road hurt or worse - dead. My poor Joe dog.
As it turns out, Joe will be coming home tomorrow. He was found and returned to the family who took him home. He will stay overnight in the garage again, this time with the window securely closed, and come home tomorrow. I will return the money and contribute a little for gas since it is a long drive there and back. Joe will be reuinted with his brother and the pack and get a big hug from me.
