All the baby duckies are gone. I believe that Jade, the Maremma pup who is now 9 months old, at them. I caught her today with the last little fellow in her mouth and I have not seen him since then. Jade got a severe scolding. She cried and ran away, even though not a hand was laid on her. She knew she had done something that was bad. When Ofcharka was about the same age, he developed a taste for adult duck, raw, and with feathers. After eating about 7 of them, I flogged him with a duck he had just killed and tied him up with the duck at his feet. Every time he looked at the duck, I yelled at him. It got to the point that he would not so much as look in the direction of the duck and ever since then, he has never touched another bird. That was a success story, but it is not so easy when the critter is barely the size of a ping pong ball with feathers. I am sure Jade understood at the time, however; there was nothing to make the lesson last. I am hoping that it will. There is a mother hen with chicks in the farm yard. She started with 14 and lost one today. Perhaps Jade ate that one too. Tomorrow I will try to keep a close eye on her. I do feel that it does not mean the dog will always display bad behaviour. She is a teenager now and is acting up, that is all. I hope.
