Summer Storms

The delivery man moved the tree off the driveway.

Wicked storm clouds moving in too fast.

Summer in Alberta means thunder storms. The weather has actually been very severe in many areas, and in southern Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, there is tremendous flooding. I do know some farmers have even lost livestock due to the heavy waters. Fortunately, here, we have no flooding, but we sure did have rain yesterday and today. I saw the clouds coming and they were moving fast, so I barely had time to get the animals in their shelters and close the doors before the first drops came pelting down. The wind was ferocious by then, and the lightening was preceding the booming thunder. The dogs had all gone to hide, especially Robbie, who is terribly afraid of loud noises. He hides in my room then, though he is never allowed in my room at all. He is petrified and I pretend I do not see him cowering in the corner. 

There was a little damage this morning, but not much. The lid flew off the barrel of rabbit pellets and they had turned to mush. I will give them to the birds because they will mould sooner than the rabbits will eat them. The tarp blew off the oats, but the tarp leaked and the bottom foot of oats in the tote is mouldy and will have to be composted. Too bad. The worst of the storm damage was the big tree that blew down over the driveway. I had a lift of lumber delivered and the nice driver got his machine down to move the tree so he could come in the yard. Unfortunately, he popped the stem off a tire and had to get it repaired before he could finish the delivery, but the tree was moved at least. 

Today, there were several more periods of heavy rain and it was much cooler with temperatures running a bit lower than the 30C of yesterday. Tomorrow the sun is supposed to be shining all day and for the days after. I will finally get some outdoor painting done, I think. yay!
