Wait a minute. Who is that lying cross wise in a funny place? Why it is Lucy Llama. Lucy appears to have quite the belly on her. She has not had a baby on the farm yet, but since Stanley has been here, it seems the girls had no choice. Stanley jumped the fence in December 2012, just after he arrived. The first llama to give birth was Joyce and it was the middle of winter. Llama gestation is one year, so poor Joyce was the first. She and Stanley are cohabiting with the horses, not to their liking one bit. To keep the newborn cria, Jeanette, safe, and to give Lucy a peaceful opportunity to birth her young one, the two were moved with the Cotswolds.
Jeanette is a month and a bit old now and growing quickly. She loves to run and is amazing to watch loping and running and kicking her heels up with the gratitude just to be. Karin is a very good mother and has watched over her little one with great care. Karin was Joyce's cria in 2011, just after we arrived here.
Lucy is not showing any signs of being close to deliver, but that could be deceiving. With llamas, it is sometimes impossible to tell. She was eating and the sun was warm, then she just sort of rolled over and took a nap right where she was. Llamas are really sweet natured, clean and gentle. They hum to one another to communicate. How pretty a sight to see the three ladies enjoying the day!
