The Richness of Old Friends

There is nothing as comforting as being in the presence of an old friend, the sort of friend where just being together is enough, where conversation is not always necessary and being occupied is an option. That sort of friend, where a look is enough to say what is on your mind and feelings are shared without speaking, that is the sort of friend I have and I am blessed.

It is winter in Alberta, not exactly the destination point of a holiday and yet my good friend came to see me and spend the holidays with me. We can talk forever or be together and knit or look at magazines or play cards or do nothing and we are content to just be together. What a joy it is to have such a friend and should we have one in a lifetime, how lucky we truly are. Such is my friend.

Today we grated the soap I saved from distaster and then she helped me clean up the mess in the kitchen and wash all the pots and pans and molds and everything that involved making that soap. And she was happy to do so. We had a bean and alpaca soup for supper, one of those hearty soups where two small bowls will easily keep one until morning and of course it was made from scratch.

She did come outside with me to assist with the chores and ended up chasing the sheep back into the right places when they decided to go through the fence where they should not have been. She is such a wonderful person and willingly helps not only me, but anyone, where help is needed. I am grateful for my friend, I truly am!
