The pasture is lush and wonderful this year, with tons of red, white and yellow clover, wild roses, and tasty strawberries. But it was going to waste, so Farmer Ken from next door knew of some one looking for pasture for twenty cow. The rules here are the animals must be used to big dogs and quiet enough to graze with sheep and these cows are all that. They are very quiet, very good with the sheep and unobtrusive. They are curious and like to come to the fence when I am out and about and when I go bring Elsie in, the whole herd is often following Elsie and me to the farm yard. This morning they were all hanging around, waiting for Elsie to come out to join them.

The farmer boarding his cows here has not provided salt or minerals for them. I am not sure how it is with range cattle for their needs for these elements. The cows can drink from the creek on the property. so they have ample water and they certainly have ample water and the bush provides shelter from the sun and bugs and the rain storms we have had all summer.

This breed of cow is Simmental and they are a very stocky meaty breed. The white face attracts the flies though. They have furry ears and are real cute. If I was going to have meat cows, I would love these, but my heart is set on Highland cattle.

It is neat to have cows on the farm. They are making the land better by grazing the weeds and grass and fertilizing at the same time. Cows are cool!
