But the drive was nice at a brisk 10 degrees here and 14 in Edmonton. We had lively conversation and a wonderful stroganoff for dinner with exquisite pastries from a favourite bakery. The conversation flowed and a good time was had by all. The only one missing was my dear daughter who is currently studying to be a midwife in Australia. My middle son was there, since he is working in Edmonton for a Vancouver company. The youngest son is at Northern Institute of Technology taking courses for his journeyman lineman ticket and his partner is at home working in Calgary where they have relocated. It was all rather how convenient to be located within a three hour proximity and be able to get together. Another visit will be to the farm when there is enough room for everyone to sit. At the moment I am waiting to hear from my friend about his occupation of the upper floor of the big house, but he has put an offer to buy real estate, so that might not work for me. Time will tell. For his sake I hope he does get the house he is bidding on, since prices are down, but selfishly, for my sake, I would love it if he was taking up residence here.
When I came home just before 8, I got the sheep in with Robbie's help, and fed and watered all the birds, bunnies, and piggies. Most important are those in cages who cannot go out to fend for themselves. They need close monitoring and tending at least twice daily. It was after dark and raining when I came in finally, but everything was finished.
I don't get to Edmonton often because it means late chores and a short stay in town after morning chores. Being such a long drive, it takes a good 5 hours or more out of the day just on the road. I was hoping to go to a wallpaper store in Edmonton and to find some vintage paper for the little house, but there was not enogh time. I may order some online, vintage Beatrix Potter toile print in green. It is adorable and very hard to find. Or, I may do a faux finish on the walls of the laundry/spare bedroom and paint clouds on the ceiling. Tomorrow I will work in the house if it is still raining, but the time has come to clean the yard and set up the winter pens for the animals. We have had many frosts now, and though it is not forecast for a long time, I feel winter is not so far away.
All in all it was an interesting day. How was yours?
