Lynn, Thanks! We already have the majority of the posts in though, so are well on our way and the wire will have to be done by some one else because my son is off to work in Wabasca camp in a few days. I am doing the wood fence today and then will begin to build the gates. I will post pictures of my progress. Take care.
I have been waiting two years to have fencing done. Finally, after viewing some videos, I decided to at least get the posts in myself and do the yard fence too, since it is wooden. I can make the gates and install them too. The wire in the pasture though, with corner braces and so on...that is another story. I suppose I could do that too. Where there is a will there is a way and if no one is interested in the work, then I will do it myself. The trouble here is that we are in the oil patch and a fencer makes upwards of 1000 dollars a day, though he only works in the summer. Gracious, he only has to! But, getting that fencer to put up some farm fence is not going to happen unless I pay oil wages, and that is definitely out of my budget. So, I rented the post pounder and tomorrow I will give it a try. Wish me luck!

There is a bit of a technique to putting in posts and you probably will screw up the first few until you get the hang of it. It also depends on the type of ground you're dealing with. Hopefully the ground is not too rocky. Make sure you have a decent level at least 2 feet long, 4 foot is best. And hopefully you have your son there to help you lug and hold the posts.

I took a bunch of photos when I was working on fencing in Alberta - if you want, I can send you some of them, along with descriptions of what we did there. Not sure how useful they'd be, but it could be helpful
